Where to Get the Best Ice Cream in Copenhagen

When the weather is fine, there’s not one thing in the world better than taking a leisurely walk through a favorite neighborhood or by the water with an ice cream cone in hand. Though you can find a “soft is” (soft-serve ice cream) stand almost anywhere in the city, there are a few places dotted around where locals head when they want something both cool and expertly-made.

Here’s where to get the best ice cream in Copenhagen, from gourmet flavors to classic soft serve:

List Marker: Number 1Ismageriet

The. Best. That’s really all there is to say about this beloved ice cream shop. It can get extremely busy during summer evenings and on the weekends (how many ice cream shops require you to take a number?!), but you’ll be glad you stuck it out. The ice cream is the perfect blend of creamy and flavorful. If they have the Jordnød-Karamel-Chokolade, get that.

List Marker: Number 2Østerberg Ice Cream

The crazy aunt of ice cream stores, Østerberg has made a name for itself by serving interesting, quirky flavors like aloe vera/pomegranate and red dragonfruit. Don’t worry, they still have traditional offerings like vanilla, cookie dough and chocolate brownie made with gooey chunks of real brownies.

List Marker: Number 3Istid

It would be easy to write off liquid nitrogen ice cream a fun gimmick, but the founders of Istid have made their shop so much more than that by producing consistently delicious, creative flavors in their pastel-colored KitchenAid mixers. They often have great vegan flavors and the menu changes often. Try the sundae, if it’s available!
