Six Quirky Events at Copenhagen Culture Night 2017

Since 1993, Copenhagen has hosted Culture Night (Kulturnatten). Throughout the evening, venues from museums to more unconventional spaces will open up to over 100,000 people as they create unique experiences that highlight Copenhagen’s culture in a variety of ways. Everything from political history to contemporary art is on display. This isn’t a typical festival; the events can get pretty whacky! But that’s why we love this night of fun, and you will too.

To get access to all the events, simply purchase a Culture Pass for 95 DKK. The pass also covers a child under 12 years and gives you access to all public transport from 5 pm – 5 am. There are a few events that require a free extra ticket for space-limitation reasons; those events are marked clearly on the program.

Check out our top recommendations for weird and wonderful things to do at Copenhagen’s Culture Night 2017:

List Marker: Number 1Lantern Workshop in the Cisterns

Design your own lantern or origami crane with direction from architect Gitte Mathiasen while the Cisterns are lit up with a display of beautiful lanterns. Just outside, Japanese chef Isao Suzuki will be serving Japanese street food. Take note all over Fredreiksberg – in addition to these lanterns, there will be lights as part of the art installation “Streams of Culture.”

Learn all about Faroese culture, including knitting, salmon (the best in the world!), Faroese beer and jazz. The evening ends with a traditional chain dance. A great way to learn about a culture that is part of Denmark but isn’t always given its rightful place.

You’ll get to poke your nose into all those creepy little corners you’ve always dreamed about.
