The New New Nordic: MULGEO BLINIS Bring Something Unique to Copenhagen

In partnership with

It’s getting harder and harder to find something new on the Copenhagen food scene these days. MULGEO BLINIS, now hosting a long-term pop-up at Torvehallerne, has managed to do it. Serving fluffy blinis topped with local and seasonal ingredients and a focus on seafood, the bar is offering people Russian-inspired dishes in a Nordic way.

MULGEO was founded in 2018 by Anastasia and Thomas Rasmussen, the owners of the popular Hansens Mejeri Forhandler ice cream shop in the centre of Copenhagen, as well as an ice cream truck on Islands Brygge and the beloved Milkshake Bar at Roskilde Festival. Which is to say: they know their way around the food industry. MULGEO has been a dream long in the making for them.

Anastasia, who was born in Russia, says, “I’ve wanted to bring something with some of my background into the Copenhagen food scene for a while. Blinis are well known as the popular Russian savory pancakes. The geographical similarity makes it possible to make almost any Russian dish with Danish produce, and of course we want to be as sustainable as possible, so working with local and seasonal ingredients makes sense.”

In addition to their blinis, MULGEO offers fresh side and delicious Limfjord oysters, a perfect start to your meal or as a little something on the side of your glass of bubbles. If you’re an oyster-newbie, on Mondays from 2 – 5 pm, MULGEO will host an oyster tasting, including a brief introduction to the delicacy. Just show up, no RSVP needed.

On Fridays, they’re offering a special deal between 4 – 6 pm: complimentary glass of wine with every blini purchase. As with most Torvehallerne stands, there is bar seating and standing room, as well as the possibility to sit outside when the weather warms up.

“We’re more of a bar,” Anastasia explains, “and the blinis are the unique part of the equation. We make sure that we have drinks – we’re focusing on natural wines – that pair beautifully with our blinis. It makes for a great light meal, or a snack to have on the side of your drink. We imagine that people will stop by for a glass of bubbles, then have a blini or two over drinks and great conversation. Can you imagine anything better?”
