Monday 2nd January
Aften Yoga at Absalon
Reasonably priced yoga sessions (50 kroner each) for those of us feeling like we need a kick-start into the new year and want to sweat off some of those extra calories. Plus Absalon, a former church, turned culture hub, is the perfect spot to get all mindful and that.
Tuesday 3rd January
Pink Floyd The Wall at Cinematek
Singer Bob Geldof takes on the role of self-destructive rock star in this film-version of the pink Floyd’s album of the same name. The story depicts one man’s downfall into a nightmarish realm, where dream and reality intertwine in violent hallucinatory imagery.
Friday 5th – 6th January
Hello Vintage Kilo Sale
Clothing by kilo; quite possibly the best kind of fashion sale. It’s 200kr per kilo, so be sure to stuff those bags!
Saturday 7th January
Blastbeast.dk Showcase at Pumpehuset
For the fourth year in a row, Blastbeast.dk are bringing their roster of fresh new talent from Copenhagen’s metal underground. Six new names including The Ritual, Beast and Silhouette will be turning up the volume at Pumpehuset for a night of sweat and fist pumping.
Sunday 8th January
Danish On A Sunday: Neon Demon at Cinematek
A star-cast for Nicholas Winding Refn’s Neon Demon, including Elle Fanning, Christina Hendricks and Keanu Reeves. When aspiring young model, Jesse, makes the move to La-la-land, the other models are quickly enamoured by her youthfulness and will do seemingly anything it takes to be just like her.
Friday 13th January
Du Noon Photo Exhibition Opening
Photographer, Oliver Salvesen, spent a number of months in the South African township, Du Noon, experiencing everyday life with its locals. Now his photo exhibition, taking place at VESS showroom in Vesterbro, shines a light on this small town, and the wider country marked by a complex political past. The exhibition runs until 29th January.
Saturday 14th January
Culture Box Turns Twelve
Culture Box turns twelve and to mark the occasion they’re bringing together a potent collection of artists to celebrate. Headlining is New York’s Levon Vincent whose unique house and techno beats won’t disappoint. Supporting him are two of Copenhagen’s best exports, Northern Structures and Kenneth Christiansen. Starts at 11pm.
Sunday 15th January
PIZZA SESSIONS #4
Pizza, beer, live jams and hygge. What better way to spend a Sunday night? At Himmeriget in Frederiksberg, starting at 4pm.
Tuesday 17th January
The Amputee at Cinematek
David Lynch’s short experimental film ‘The Amputee’ 1974 is a fantastically strange little tale. Lasting just nine minutes the film centres around a woman (Catherine Coulson, who later turns up in Twin Peaks as The Log Lady) who sits, with both legs amputated, writing a letter. Her nurse (played by Lynch) tends to her dressings, but before long fluid starts gushing out of the wounds. The Amputee is one of Lynch’s earliest works, and signals the chaos of his repertoire to come.
Friday 20th January
Vinterbyhavn
Get some much-needed summer vibes at Pumpehuset when the place will be filled with greenery from City Garden and guests can enjoy a round of Byhavebingo (there’ll be prizes, we LOVE prizes!). Bands including Luster and Kaliyah will also be playing; it’s the perfect low-key evening!
Saturday 21st January
Women’s March Copenhagen
A global movement spanning all the way from London to Ottawa by way of Copenhagen is marching for the protection of women’s rights. Starting at the US embassy and continuing onto Christiansborg Slotsplads, the march – happening the day after President Trump’s inauguration – aims to promote equality for women, immigrants and other marginalised societal groups as well as encourage this notion of ‘collective responsibility’.
Sunday 22nd January
Motley’s Law at Cinematek
38 year old Kimberley Motley moves to Kabul to work as a civil defence lawyer, leaving her husband and three children back home in America. As she came to realise how severely damaged the Afghan legal system is, Motley’s main focus has been for human rights and civil liberty. But as the only foreign female lawyer in an Afghan court, bringing the guilty to justice isn’t always straightforward, making it harder for Kimberley to continue her work.
Monday 23rd January
Cage The Elephant at Lille Vega
The Kentucky-born Shultz brothers will be playing their explosive melodies and hypnotic tunes at Vega this month. With the release of their last album Tell Me I’m Pretty in December 2015, produced by Black Key’s Dan Auerbach, we’re excited to see what they do next.
Wednesday 25th January
The Flaming Lips at Store Vega
Psychedelic rockers, The Flaming Lips, are bringing their beach balls and confetti along with them to Copenhagen. Undoubtedly still riding the high from their spectacular show at Heartland Festival at Funen’s Egeskov Castle last Summer! Expect an equally impressive set.
Thursday 26th January
Gender Equality: Why does it matter? With Asger Ryhl
The United Nations Youth Associations of Denmark is hosting an event on the issue of gender equality at the UN City; the discussion will focus on how to better empower women and the issues of gender bias that still prevail in our world today. The day’s speaker includes Asger Ryhl, Director of UN Women Nordic Office.

Fleamarket at the Round Tower
Choose from over 50 different stalls and nab yourselves some bargains!
VEGA Klub: Love Hangover – A Monthly Disco
Get down and disco at Vega with Copenhagen’s favourite club enthusiasts, Love Hangover, the city’s best (and only?!) disco collective! They’ll be blasting out classics r’n’b, house and boogie for your funkalicious pleasure.

Eraserhead at Cinematek
The David Lynch appreciation month continues with Eraserhead, one of film history’s oddities. It depicts the story of parents, Henry and Mary whose child is monstrously deformed and requires the couple’s full attention. The pair, feeling the strain, begin to crumble. A grotesquely surreal take on a parent’s worst nightmare becoming a painful reality.
Sweet Sneak #18 – Wedding Edition
If, like us, a regular life dilemma is whittling down your selection off the dessert menu to just one, single treat, then Sweat Sneak’s butter cream buffet will be a Sunday well spent! The Copenhagen-based pop-up bakery are offering all soon-to-be betrothed and the seriously sweet-toothed amongst you an opportunity to indulge for the day and sample from their range of delicious goodies.

Infectious electro-pop duo hailing from Canada embark on their extensive world tour and our inner emo selves are freaking out! Their new album, Love You To Death, is the ideal soundtrack to get you pumped for 2017.
Ongoing in January
“MINDCRAFT,” AT DESIGNMUSEUM DENMARK
This new exhibition showcases the best of Danish craft and design, and celebrates some of Denmark’s most gifted creatives including Henrik Vibskov, Ole Jensen and Nicholas Nybro.
Previous variations of the exhibition have proven popular; Mindcraft15 – hosted in Milan – bagged a Milano Design Award as well as a German Design Award. The exhibition runs until 8th January.
“THE MUSEUM OF BROKEN RELATIONSHIPS” AT THE ROUND TOWER
A painfully beautiful new exhibition of lost love and broken hearts opens at the Rundetaarn as LA’s Museum of Broken Relationships begins its nordic tour. Browse through everyday objects submitted by ordinary ex lovers; here’s hoping you don’t recognise anything in the display! The exhibition runs from the 19th of November until January 22.
“OUR URBAN LIVING ROOM,” AT DAC
The prolific practice Cobe – responsible for the new Nørreport Station, Israels Plads, and the Roskilde rock museum – have well and truly hankered themselves into Copenhagen’s urban spaces. Now they want you to pull up a pew at their new exhibition opening this month at the Danish Architecture Centre which will explore Cobe’s most significant projects over the past ten years. It’s on until from the 14th October – 8th January.
