Grød: A must-try Danish breakfast specialty

Grød is the Danish word for porridge, and it holds a special place in Danish cuisine and culture. Traditional Danish porridge is often made from oats or other grains and can be customized with a variety of toppings like berries, nuts, seeds, and sweeteners such as honey or sugar.

In recent years, there has been a resurgence of interest in porridge and grains as healthy and versatile meal options, leading to the emergence of specialty porridge restaurants like GRØD.

GRØD offer a modern twist on traditional porridge by incorporating unique flavors, toppings, and presentation styles, making porridge a trendy and diverse culinary choice. Our favourites include delicious toppings like salted caramel and roasted almonds. You can also choose a gluten-free porridge served with Skyr Icelandic yogurt, or opt for chia porridge accompanied by coconut flakes and almond milk. They also make risotto, congee, and daal; basically, if it’s a meal in a bowl, you can get it at GRØD.

There are 9 Grød restaurants in Copenhagen, including: Nørrebro, Christianshavn, Torvehallerne, Hellerup, Kongens Lyngby, Vesterbro, Frederiksberg and Østerbro.

Østerbro Brunch

Bistro Lupa

Bistro Lupa, sister restaurant to the celebrated Ark, is a plant-based cafe in Østerbro that serves brunch, lunch, and dinner. Though the atmosphere is casual, the food is really special. You don’t need to be a vegan to enjoy it, either; there’s really something for everyone!

Some of our favorites are the coconut milk yoghurt and a dash of creamy peanut butter, topped with crunchy granola, dried berries, and sweet Cicely.

If you’re looking for something more lunch-y during your brunch, the Milk Bread Sandwich (with seasoned and brined Blue Oyster Mushrooms as a kind of pastrami).

We also recommend the “LFM” with crunchy American Southern-style fried Blue Oyster Mushrooms and a special homemade BBQ sauce, are delicious savory options that will convince even the most carnivorous among us that plant-based is just as filling, satisfying, and adventurous as any other style of food.

Ø12 Coffee & Eatery

This awesome blend of kaffebar and all-day eatery gave me London vibes: it feels accomplished despite the fact that it only opened in August 2019. Coffee, food, drinks, and interior are all on-point.

As for what to try on the menu: definitely give the avocado smash a go! The waffle with vanilla cream and berries, the Tartar, and the pastries are all worth your time.
Their concept is simple: redefine the all-day eatery in Copenhagen.

Owners Enete, Kasper, and Anders have made it their mission to bring the best possible coffee and food to the city. In order to do that, they own a KB90 from La Marzocco, the only restaurant in Denmark to do so. This beast of an espresso machine redefines what a cup of coffee can be. The coffee is superb; among the best in Copenhagen.
The food is of the same high quality, working with top-class ingredients and a creative approach.
