Six Designers to Know for Copenhagen Fashion Week AW20

Copenhagen Fashion Week (CPHFW) takes place 28th – 31st January 2020. While the autumn-winter season can feel heavier than the sun-soaked spring-summer season, there are plenty of exciting runway shows and events taking place that make this season a special one.

Now that CPHFW is the only major international fashion week in the Nordics, there are more designers from the overall region than ever before. This season sees debut shows from fashion darlings such as Selam Fessahaye (Sweden) and Michael Olestad (Norway), among many others. For those who love Scandinavian design and fashion, this season promises to be an exciting one.

Here are the designers to know for Copenhagen Fashion Week autumn-winter 2020:

List Marker: Number 1Selam Fessahaye

Swedish-Eritrean designer and stylish Selam Fessahaye’s debut collection in August 2018, and her second collection the following season, sent Stockholm’s fashion scene into a tizzy. Her virtuosic work is ethereal, poetic, and bold. This is her first show at Copenhagen Fashion Week and it’s at the top of our list of must-see collections.

List Marker: Number 2Wood Wood

Cool-kid brand Wood Wood is back after taking a few seasons off fashion week, and we’re looking forward to seeing what they show on the runway. Their menswear and womenswear is on-trend athleisure and daily wear that falls somewhere between hypbeast and normcore. Their collaborations, including their shoes, are extremely popular in Copenhagen and beyond.

List Marker: Number 3Tonsure

Having taken a little fashion week break, Tonsure is back this season with a presentation. The menswear brand’s balance of playful and high-fashion is always well-done; this is a design house that’s not afraid to push men’s fashion in unexpected and interesting ways.

List Marker: Number 4Blanche

Sustainability-minded womenswear brand Blanche is showing again this season. With their slow but steady growth over the last few years, it’s no wonder that they’ve become a favorite hidden gem of the Copenhagen fashion scene. With the addition of Blanche Atelier, which produces more experimental and trend-based garments, Blanche is ready to show what they can do.

List Marker: Number 5Michael Olestad

Artistic, unexpected, and meticulous, Norwegian designer Michael Olestad’s work always walks the line between avant garde and wearable. This is his first Copenhagen Fashion Week show and we look forward to seeing what he’ll add to the season; there’s really no one else like him working in the Nordics today.

List Marker: Number 6Rains

Rainwear on the runway? If anyone can do it, it’s Danish brand Rains, who have made fashion-forward and functional rain gear their mission. You’d be hard-pressed to find someone in Copenhagen who doesn’t have a Rains jacket or backpack, and their Copenhagen Fashion Week debut is highly anticipated.
