Product details

SÖDERHAMN seating series allows you to sit deeply, low and softly with the loose back cushions for extra support.

Light, airy design with high legs and slim lines, yet still a great comfort thanks to the elastic weave in the bottom and high resilience foam in the seat cushions.

The sofa's sections can be used freestanding or combined in different ways to get a size and shape that suits you and your home.

If you need a larger sofa, you can add a section or two to your existing combination.

You can create your own perfect combination with the planning tool. Assemble, take apart and put together again until it’s just right.

The removable back cushions give your body support where needed. For example, place several behind your back for a more upright position or use them to make it comfortable when lying down and reading.

The depth of the sofa makes it perfect for relaxing or even taking a nice nap.

You can choose to use the sofa with or without armrests, depending on the expression you want to create.

The high legs make it easy to clean the floor under the sofa.

This cover is made of the fabric Viarp in cotton and polyester. It has a clear texture and a mélange effect that makes it less sensitive to stains.

The cover is easy to keep clean since it can be machine washed and is easy to take off and put on again.

10-year guarantee. Read about the terms in the guarantee brochure.

Reviews

Don’t buy!!!AndreaWhat the description doesn’t say is that the fabric is not attached and that you have to iron each piece. Took me 6 hours all together to put together. Not worth the price. The fabric is cheap and any little stain shows. Also, this couch is not comfortable!! 1
Favorite!!!MichelleWe got this couch 3 years ago when my husband and I first got married, and to this day it is our absolute favorite! We're couch potatoes and love to lounge on the couch (pretty much all day) and this has kept up with ZERO sign of wear/tear. Almost every guest we have over compliments our sofa, saying it's so comfortable and they can't believe it's from Ikea. Not sure why there are such poor reviews... because we love it and would recommend it to anyone and everyone! The minimal design compliments any space, it's super sturdy and held up perfectly with movers (not even once, but twice), and I LOVE how deep the seats are. An adult (probably 5'-7" and under) can lay down comfortably like a bed as well. Highly, highly recommend!5
Very comfy but lowPamVery comfy but low4
Love it! Comfortable and it’sJoweeLove it! Comfortable and it’s small enough but big enough!5
Great couchJenniferWe've been going on year 5 with this couch. I agree the padding is a tad thin but it's a very comfortable sturdy couch. Love how spacious it is. Anyone who wrote a bad review just shouldn't be shopping at IKEA. This is a quality piece for the price, we love it!5
Broken:(Renee’It has been a little over a year that I’ve had this couch, and it’s now broken and caved in. Just like that. This does not last very long and not durable at all.1
THE BESTRachelI am REALLY confused at the bad reviews of this couch. It is by far the best couch I’ve ever bought. It’s so deep which makes taking a nap on this thing magical. The fabric is perfect as it withstands spills and any stain is really Camouflaged. When I was shopping around for couches and stumbled upon the SODERHAMN, I admit I kept my search moving both because of the very mixed reviews, And also because it was not typically the type of couch I usually go for (huge, plush sectional, flush to the ground). But, because I downsized tremendously I needed To get practical. I LOVED the look of it and noticed a lot of use for it in staging homes. Which ultimately led me to my next suspicion that it just looked good but wasn’t good for actual use or comfort. Well, as my search continued I found myself coming back again and again for the SODERHAMN; and well, The rest is history. My advice for you would be to ignore the bad reviews. It’s a GREAT couch that can be customized to your needs.5
I love this couchLoriI purchased this couch 4.5 years ago and I love it more now then when I first purchased it. I love that I can change the entire look by changing the covers, having no arms ,adding just one or both. It's also roomy for a nice afternoon nap with my dog.5
Worst sofa we’ve ownedCatherineVery uncomfortable, long seat with little cushion and short back. All 8 family members find it intolerable. Ottoman has been on backorder for 18 mos which is fine because we are sending this to Goodwill asap.1
Love it at first but not durableSzymonI really loved this sofa's design because it fit my room aesthetic perfectly. Was super happy to buy it. Assembly was simple. It's super comfy. I especially love the very deep seating compared to other sofas. The cushions tend to move forward a bit as you sit but it wasn't a huge issue for me. However, very quickly (around 2-3 months in) one of the legs started to move. At first I didn't notice it but quickly the leg snapped. Turns out the part to which the leg is attached completely broke. It's impossible to repair it seems as that part comes with the whole base of the sofa -- I would need to buy a brand new one. For now, I put some books there to support the sofa but I am forced to buy a new one just a few months after owning this one.2
THE BEST SOFA!Verified ReviewerI am so happy with this sofa and can’t understand the negative reviews. It is so deep and so great for napping. The cushions are springy but extremely comfortable. If you want a more plush feeling just add some king size pillows to the inserts. The material hides any stain and it holds up very well. The popularly of this sofa is truly justified. Also love that I can add to it if I move to a larger space.5
I hate this sofaChelseaWe ordered this sofa from the ikea website several months ago. This is when it was really hard to find a sofa in stock anywhere because everything was back ordered. We needed a smaller sized sofa for our space so our options were limited. The color we ordered was beige/brown which unfortunately looks more like grey in person. The fabric is a bit rough but that's really the least of my complaints. This sofa put off a bit of an unpleasant new sofa odor the first several months. One good thing is that the depth makes it a good place for overnight guests to sleep but it is absolutely horrible to sit on. The cushions were so thin I had to buy extra foam cushioning to shove underneath and the space between the two seat cushions also creates an awkward uncomfortable gap in the middle. The cushions have a tendency to slide forward because when you sit on the sofa you have to sit toward the front to not be in pain. I cant wait to get rid of this sofa I hate how much money I spent on this.1
Great for lounging and snuggling, kinda...Rachelbut it is so uncomfortable to sit on in an upright position. The cushions are so thin that it hurts my hips. I'm 5'3" so when I sit up against the back of the couch, my ankles clear the front of it. When I use BOTH of the large pillows, my feet can touch the floor. I do love the orange color since it reminds me of sunshine and warmth. We've had it a year now. The assembly took us about an hour so no issues and the process was as expected. However, this couch really only makes our Dane and Bulldog happy.3
poor qualityVioricaSo we bought this couch 6 months ago. We loved it, despite the fact it looked a bit flimsy. Well, let me tell you IT IS flimsy. After roughly half a year, one of the seats broke, and now that side is simply caved in. Just with like any cheap couches. Ikea, please, work on your quality on this line. It is beautiful, simple, minimalist... but no quality whatsoever.1
Love the way it looks but...Cindy... it's not the most comfortable. The seat cushions are quite thin and the the other cushions are stiff and slide everywhere. The covers shrunk a little in the wash too, so it was hard to put them on, especially the arm rest... Overall, I was disappointed, but I LOVE the wide seats, they are PERFECT for lounging and relaxing!3
Awl Righty ThenWilliamWhile the finished product looks nice and is comfortable I don't know that I'd order the version w arms again. You need to poke large holes in the fabric and batting in order to add the arms. Pre-cut reinforced holes would have been nice or at least include the required tool. An awl is pictured in the instructions but you won't find one in the box. The arms once attached feel a bit flimsy as well. This being said, it's a nice deep sofa and despite the low profile of the cushions it is quite comfortable. The color is photo accurate and we're very happy to have chosen the Finnsta turquoise. As far as furniture goes this was pretty easy to assemble; the only difficulty was in mounting the arms. I'd recommend getting this but save yourself the money on the arms.4
easy to assemble with help.Patriciaeasy to assemble with help. fits well in a smaller area. Like the fabric on the blue better than the display in the store glad I spent more to get it as it will wear much better5
Furniture great - store awfulVerified BuyerI love the furniture i bought; looks great, easy to assemble, great value. The store however is awful, I would have bought much more but what was visible on line as in stock was not.3
Nice, wide seat, but...TealI bought this sofa because I loved how it looked masculine and feminine at the same time- a good balance- and the wide seat appeared perfect for relaxing. The seat is very wide, I found, but if you sit forward on the edge, there is no padding so the frame pushes into your bottom. Also...and this is a big one...while the description says you can wash the cover, you CANNOT was the frame cover (including the arm rests and the front of the frame) without dismantling the couch, which is ridiculous. So, DO NOT buy the white cover unless you're okay with this (I learned from experience). Lastly, the back cushions aren't attached at all so they are constantly falling over because they're so thin. I don't have a way to return this so it's going to go in a little -used den.2
Verified BuyerI’ve had this couch several years now and it’s holding up great. I had to replace the cover after my dogs made a mess of it, but otherwise it’s perfect. Great for curling up on and very comfortable to lay down on for a nap.5
SÖDERHAMN Sofa, Viarp beige/brown

Our take on cotton

We use cotton in many of our products, from sofas and cushions to bed linen and mattresses. It is a soft, durable, and renewable fiber that breathes and is good at absorbing moisture. All these great qualities make cotton one of our most important materials, but it isn’t without its challenges, much having to do with conventional farming methods that negatively impact the environment and poor working conditions for farmers. With our size and production volumes, we want to drive change in the cotton industry.

Working together to drive change

Each year, IKEA uses around 0.5 percent of all cotton grown around the world. This may not seem like a lot, but the number is big enough to drive change in the industry. For many years, we have been working with partners and stakeholders globally to transform conventional large-scale cotton farming and set social and environmental standards for cotton production. As an example, we helped set up the Better Cotton Initiative (BCI) who runs the world’s largest cotton sustainability programme. BCI exists to make global cotton production better for the people who produce it, better for the environment it grows in and better for the sector’s future. Today, more than 110,000 farmers have adopted more sustainable farming practices within IKEA projects.

Ensuring compliance throughout the value chain

All IKEA products are produced in accordance with the IKEA IWAY Standard, our Supplier Code of Conduct. It sets out the minimum environmental and social standards expected from our suppliers, including compliance with local laws. We do not accept any form of forced labor, child labor or treatments in breach of our supply chain requirements. Our cotton teams across the globe ensure that all cotton used in IKEA products meets the demands of compliance in our supply chain. By having teams on the ground in areas where it has previously been challenging to work responsibly, we can challenge the traditional ways of working and improve the industry. If we discover that we are acting in places where we cannot ensure our requirements are being met, we follow-up on the ground and drive change.

Material

What is cotton?

Cotton is one of the world's most appreciated and used natural fibers. Textiles in cotton are soft, hardwearing and can be washed at high temperatures. They are also good at breathing and absorbing moisture – making them pleasant to wear close to the body. Today at IKEA we use more and more recycled cotton and strive to make sure that all the new cotton we use has been grown and produced with less and less amounts of pesticides, fertilizers and water.
