The Monthly Bite: Best Takeaway in Copenhagen Vol. 1 [Covid Edition]

The lockdown in Copenhagen has been tough on the restaurant industry and sadly, so many great restaurants have had to close their doors. For those who have managed to stay open, they’ve had to find new and creative ways to continue to make great food and cater to their guests. Takeaway has become the newest trend and Copenhageners have shown so much love and support this way. So let’s keep showing our favorite spots in the city some love, starting with three of the best new takeaways – let’s dig in!

Here are the best new takeaways and restaurants in Copenhagen this month:

Mother x Maillard collaboration

Two classics in Copenhagen’s food scene, one doing delicious pizzas and the other award-winning pastries, have joined forces to create the ultimate takeaway pizza to keep you going during lockdown. That’s right, dough masters Mother and Andersen & Maillard are working together!

Using Maillard’s 17-year-old sourdough starter, the organic pizza dough is mixed with seawater which, once cooked, holds its fragrance and freshness longer – avoiding the dreaded damp bottom. Plus, it makes for an amazing pizza. I was lucky enough to be next to the pizzaiolo while he rolled out the beautiful dough, painted it with delicious tomato sauce, sprinkled some grated cheese, laid out a few basil leaves, added a splash of olive oil, and finished with fresh chunks of burrata. Poetry!

Mother works with a wood-fire oven – an authentic Italian cooking method – that gets hot enough for the pizzas to cook in just one minute. The quality of the ingredients is superb, something I always value and appreciate, and the result is a restaurant-quality pizza to enjoy at home.

The pizzas are available from Mother’s location in Kødbyen.

Flavour Bastards

When Maria, the food blogger behind Vanlose Blues, told me she was going to open a plant-based spot in Nørrebro, I was almost as excited as it if was my own.

Considering she’s one of the best food bloggers in Copenhagen, it should come as no surprise that Flavour Bastards has already gotten plenty of attention, but it is beyond well-deserved. Maria and partners have created a unique concept in Copenhagen: an all-day eatery serving delicious plant-based food from cocktail lover’s Lúlú bar, and all on one of Nørrebro’s hottest streets – Ravnsborggade.

They search for the best of the best in terms of ingredients and with creativity, passion, confidence, and influences from different world cuisines, have created a menu that covers brunch, lunch, and dinner with solely delicious food. Pay them a visit sooner than later, you are in for a treat.

Gola Cph

If you have been to Rome and are familiar with this concept, then you will be forever grateful that Gola now exists in Copenhagen. Pizzaiolos Antonio and Giovanni are serving up Roman-style pizza – rectangle slices on a focaccia-style dough – from their intimate digs on Rantzausgade. Amazing ingredients, history, and technique define the flavors of their pizzas and street-food favorite, supplí.

Drop-in and indulge in speechlessly delicious pizzas and natural wines. La dolce vita, baby.
