The Monthly Bite: Best Takeaway in Copenhagen Vol. 3 [COVID Edition]

Due to the extended COVID-19 lockdown in Copenhagen, restaurants and bars can only remain open for takeaway. Some have decided to close during this time, while others have figured out how to make the takeaway option work for them.

If there was ever a time to to support your favorite local spots, it’s now! Everyone in the food industry working to stay open and keep their staff on payroll deserves credit at the moment, and if we can, let’s make sure to work a few takeaways into our monthly budgets (if you don’t already).

Here are two new Copenhagen spots to try for a tasty takeaway:

UGood

On one of Copenhagen’s trendiest streets, Jæsborggade in Nørrebro, you’ll find a little gem serving up traditional Ugandan street food. What’s the first thing that comes to your mind when you read: rolled eggs? Founder and Head Chef Sylvester upholds his heritage by giving a modern twist to these scrumptious, omelette-filled wraps

“I missed Ugandan food, and when I started out in Refshaleøen people would travel from Amager and other parts of the city to try my “rolled eggs,” he notes.

What’s unique about UGood is the warm energy from Sylvester and the ethos behind the concept: authentic Ugandan food expertly made, served with passion.

My personal favorite was the Original Rolex, a chapati flatbread filled with omlette, fresh tomatoes, cabbage, and parsley. Make sure to pair it with a fresh sugar cane juice!

Ugood is also available to order on Wolt!

Poulette

Coming from London, a fried chicken burger was a staple in most teen diets and this greasy crunchy treat brings a wealth of nostalgia with each bite. Nestled between two other great spots, Anderson & Maillard and Pompette, Poulette is a local joint serving up the classic sandwich to much fanfare.

Poulette offers a short but sweet menu: the fried chicken sandwich and the Mapo tofu sandwich. They also have chicken nuggets, tofu nuggets, and fries.

My favorite is the Mapo tofu sandwich, which is crunchy as well as spicy, sitting on a perfectly toasted brioche bun. Poulette is reinventing the standard sandwich in Copenhagen; let’s just say we can see what the hype is all about!
