Northmodern is Copenhagen’s biggest and most prestigious design fair. Scandianvian and international brands showcase their latest collections in the beautifully-curated Bella Centre. Though in the past the trade show has run twice yearly, from 2017 it will become an annual event held in May.
We’re looking forward to seeing the ways that Copenhagen grows this important part of its international identity and, of course, seeing all the pretty things both established and new design brands have to offer.
Here are some of the best designs we saw at the fair:
Ripple Glasses and Carafe by ferm LIVING
These Art Deco-inspired glasses and carafe look as at home on a gilded bar cart as they do in a modern table setting. They’re just quirky enough to feel new and interesting, but just classic enough to look good with any decor. Plus: reasonably priced!
Shoe Rack by Roon & Rahn
We’re already fans of Aarhus-based design duo Roon & Rahn; they keep impressing us with their functional and creative products. Their shoe rack can sit on the floor or be mounted on a wall. You can adjust the bars to the height of your shoes, making it useful regardless of whether you’re storing your winter boots or a pair of sleek heels.
Nunu Elephant by Woud
Sometimes you just want something decorative. This little elephant is a wonderful gift idea or addition to your bookshelf. We love that it’s cute while not coming across as kitsch.
FEMINIST mug by Playtype
The new mug collection by Playtype includes words like Activist, Egoist and Optimist. Our favorite is Feminist!
Terho Lamp by Mater
“Terho” means “acorn” in Finnish. The Terho lamps are a lovely balance of sleek and sweet, with a beautiful ambient light and a choice of three shapes.
Moon Chair by Sixten:::Erfurt
A sculptural chair by emerging design team Sixten:::Erfurt, the Moon Chair is a great study of geometry in furniture. The new colorways, particularly burgundy, really bring out the color and texture of the metal frame. Oh, and yes, it’s damn comfy.
Kartotek Stationary
Have we mentioned that we love stationary? We love it. Kartotek is new on the scene but their charming, simple products – from notebooks to weekly planners to cars – are as assured in design as they are in function. Definitely a brand to keep an eye on if you’re a fan of paper goods.
