What’s On in Copenhagen: June 2020

Welcome to the other side of lockdown. How does it feel? How many pints have you had at your local bodega? How many small plates at your favorite restaurant? How long did you stand in a queue for a burger at Noma? There’s definitely a lot more to do in the city, comparatively speaking, but events are still a few phases away.

Heartbreakingly, this June will not be the start of festival season. This month’s calendar will keep you ticking over until such events can return, full of cultural ideas, recommendations for supporting black-owned businesses, and a seasonal recipe or two to try.

Stay safe and enjoy what Copenhagen has to offer from home this month, including public holidays, digital events, and socially distant activity ideas:

Monday 1st June

Pinsedag

Yes! It’s another holiday! Technically a Christian moveable feast, but it’s not particularly marked in Denmark. It does promise to be a lovely day though, so pack a picnic or head to the beach. It’s summer baby!

Friday 5th June

Father’s Day

Mark your calendar, 5th June is a day for Skypes and phonecalls home.

Saturday 13th June

Rose Day

June 13th marks national rosé day! Although it’s unlikely you’ll be able to celebrate it the way God intended – on a yacht off the coast Saint Tropez – there’s still lots of fun to be had. Yes, you can literally just drink a bottle of rosé, but why not elevate your revelry and mix a cocktail instead? Thank You For Rosé is a delicious coffee-table book, bursting with recipes and perfect pink pages. Cheers to that!

Thursday 18th June

Reconstruction of Identities launch

In place of its usual larger event, Copenhagen Photo Festival is running two digital exhibitions and an open-air street gallery. The later, an indepth look “European Identity”, launches on the 18th on Sønder Boulevard.

Tuesday 23rd June

Sankthansaften

The Danish summer solstice celebration takes place on a Tuesday this year. Grab a bottle of something, pick up some takeaway, and head to the water to enjoy the bonfire and pastel skies.
