Minimalist Packaging We Love: Prof. Dr. Steinkraus Skincare

It’s always a good sign when the founding member of a skincare brand is a dermatologist. And if that dermatologist happens to be one of the most celebrated dermatological surgeons and professors of dermatology in Europe? Even better! Enter Prof. Dr. Steinkraus, a skincare brand launched by Professor Dr. Volker Steinkraus in 2021.

Steinkraus founded Dermatologikum Hamburg in 1997, an international centre of excellence for dermatology, dermatological laboratory medicine, plastic surgery, laser medicine, veins, vascular medicine and aesthetics now found in several cities around the world.

The skincare line Prof. Dr. Steinkraus is based on the technology of TetCode4, a formulation developed by Steinkraus himself as a way to bridge scientific advances with natural ingredients. TetCode4 is made up of four active ingredient categories: vitamins, niacin, botanicals, and biomimetics. The composition allows for each ingredient to have optimal impact, thereby structurally improving your skin.

In the age of “clean skincare,” it can seem like technology-based skincare is too harsh, but products from Prof. Dr. Steinkraus are specifically formulated to be gentle on the skin while being highly functional as well. In addition, the brand deeply understands the degree to which its ingredients rely on maintaining environmental health.

For that reason, Prof. Dr. Steinkraus focuses its sustainability efforts on decrasing degradation of raised bogs (also known as moors). The company’s overall goal is to restore three million square metres of moorland by working with the VNP conservation foundation. Prof. Dr. Steinkraus donates €1 to the foundation for each product sold.

The skincare products themselves are surprisingly straightforward. From cleansers to moisturizers to serums, the products are easy to use and effective. There’s nothing that feels too complicated here, and that’s really the brand’s strength: they take the products and ingredients you know will work, and make sure they are the best of the best. Perhaps the brand’s most “tech-driven” product is their Vitamin C serum, which includes both an activator serum and vials of small, soft beads. Cover one of the beads in the activator serum and watch it turn into a liquid in your palm! This method keeps the Vitamin C stable and effective.

There’s a good blend here of products with an immediate effect, such as the Hyaluron serum which gives an immediate look and feeling of plump skin, and long-lasting effect, such as the Vitamin A (retinol) and Vitamin C serums.

Prof. Dr. Steinkraus effectively makes the argument that skincare doesn’t need to have too many ingredients to work well. It just needs to utilise the most up-to-date science in order to deliver natural ingredients straight to your skin.
