See Yourself Into VIU Eyewear

Since their 2013 launch in Zurich, Switzerland, VIU eyewear has been a creative force in the glasses & sunglasses industry. All designed in Zurich and made in a host of countries, from Japan (their Titanium collection) to Italy (their acetate and metal collections), the frames are fun, visually interesting and surprisingly affordable.

Having opened stores around Germany and Austria, co-Founder and Creative Director Fabrice says that the Nordics are next on their list. “We speak the same design language as the Scandinavian countries,” he explains, “Our customer is conscious of not only design but also sustainability and creative collaboration. So it makes so much sense for us not only to be in Copenhagen but also to have the place we’ve chosen.”

That place is a two floor store on Pilestræde, right in the centre of the city. The downstairs is a minimalist market for their frames, each piece mounted on the wall and easy to try on. The walls are made of cork, something that gives the space texture and warmth.

Upstairs is really special; it’s a light-filled space that will be used as an ever-changing art gallery. At the time of the opening, the exhibit features six artists, curated and commissioned by Le Mile Magazine. The artists come from a range of disciplines including fashion (Freya Dalsjø), photography (Olivia Frølich), mixed media (Albert Grøndahl), and dance (Amalie Adrian).

This particular exhibit is only for brief time before something else takes its place, but the point is that the room will continue to be open to the public, a place to take a moment and feel inspired. That’s something worth seeing.
