Six Open Events at Copenhagen Fashion Week SS21

This year sees the majority of CPHFW’s shows take to the internet as COVID-19 put a spanner in the works for brands around the world. In doing so, it’s become one of the most inclusive iterations of the event since fashion weeks began.

CPHFW’s digital platform is a hotbed of talks, fashion films, and livestreams, all of which can be accessed from wherever you are in the world (for free!) If you’re in Copenhagen, you can make the most of this hybrid season and join in with a few physical events, including a two-day jewelry installation pop-up, Munthe’s open showroom, and a meet and great with Astrid Olsen – make the most of it, these might just be the only physical events happening this SS21…

This is our pick of the best open events at Copenhagen Fashion Week SS21, with free talks, shows, fashion films, and livestreams:

List Marker: Number 1EXPLORING ANTI RACIST PRACTICES IN THE SCANDINAVIAN FASHION INDUSTRY: Rebecca Thandi Norman & Amelia Hoy on Mobilization and Organization

List Marker: Number 3Marimekko fashion film

Finnish design house Marimekko will present its Pre-Spring 2021 collection digitally at Copenhagen Fashion Week on Wednesday 12th. The digital presentation will be set in the brand’s in-house textile printing factory in Helsinki, where over a million meters of fabric is printed every year to be used in Marimekko’s lifestyle collections. The colorful presentation will kick off Marimekko’s 70th anniversary year 2021 and put the spotlight on the brand’s core, the art of printmaking.

List Marker: Number 4Copenhagen International Fashion Fair (CIFF)

CIFF is the largest fashion fair for buyers and press in Scandinavia, and it’s a huge part of what makes Copenhagen Fashion Week the biggest fashion draw in the Nordics. Aside from a massive fair, CIFF runs a number of events throughout fashion week. This season, due to COVID-19 restrictions, it will be a slightly less grandiose event, opting instead for “Elevated Order Days.” Sales, community, and sustainability will be the leading concepts during days of knowledge-sharing, where buyers, makers, and visitors can discuss the future of fashion and their concerns. Registration is free until August 8th, after which entrance is €60.

List Marker: Number 5Henrik Vibskov livestream

Henrik Vibskov is a renowned danish fashion designer, known for his enticing universes and crossover into other artforms. His physical show, held in the striking Hanging Gardens in Carlsberg city, will be CPHFW’s official closing event and promises to be an experience. Catch the live stream on CPHFW’s digital platforms on Wednesday 12th, 7 pm – 8 pm CET.

List Marker: Number 6A SUSTAINABLE FUTURE FOR FASHION: SUSTAINABILITY CONTINUED: WHAT’S NEXT?

In this conversation, curated by In futurum and hosted by Moussa Mchangama, design activist and professor at University of the Arts London, Kate Fletcher, will discuss what lies ahead for the fashion industry in terms of creating a more sustainable system. This will consider what role designers have, and how looking to nature offers a prosperous and robust direction for the future of fashion. This will be available on CPHFW’s digital platform on Monday 6th.
