When the sun comes out, I’m tempted to start shining right along with it. Not by changing my clothes. Don’t be ridiculous; monochrome looks just as chic in tropical heat as it does in the Arctic Circle. Throwing a dash of sparkle or color into your beauty routine can be just the update you need and requires a lot less commitment – both emotionally and financially – than revamping your wardrobe.
Here’s what’s putting the lime in our coconut right now:
Maria Nila Colour Refresh
These vegan, wash-in dyes are perfect for when you want a little color update but don’t want a big hoopla with real, harsh dyes. The color lasts for ten shampoos and you can do everything from blonde or brown to purple (like we did!), blue and pink. Mix with white for a pastel look.
GHD Azores Collection
GHD (Good Hair Day) products have gained cult status in pockets around the world and with good reason – they just work. Their latest straighter works as well as their basic products, but it’s all opalescent and pretty, plus it comes with a useful heat resistant bag. These are limited edition so get ’em while they’re hot (but don’t touch them while they’re hot, that’s dangerous).
Kjær Weis Highlighter
This is one of those hero products that you can use year round. Kjær Weis, founded by Danish make-up artist Kirsten Kjær Weis, has created a highlighter that adds just a hint of shimmer to your already beautiful face. This works on all skin tones and catches the light in a really subtle way.
Appeal4: Tropical Treasures
If you like doing your nailsand sometimes need a color update from your usual red/beige/pink/black/whatever, a really bright color can be fun and very summery. These near-neons from Appeal4 are just the ticket, like their “Yellow Pollux” which nearly glows in the dark. Their formula is vegan and cruelty free, and in my experience the colors lasts approximately 6 -7 days with a top coat. They also make a killer bright red (“The Red Planet”), which I wear pretty much non-stop now.
Gosh Lumi Drops
These drops are great because they’re multifunctional. You can use them on their own as a liquid highlighter or you can add a few drops to your sunscreen, moisturiser or foundation for an all-over-the-place glow. Not just for your face; glitter-up those shoulders!
