Stockholm is transitioning from Halloween to Christmas celebrations this month, with the Shockholm Halloween Parade to begin the month, and Christmas markets and dinners at the end. These events and celebrations will get us through the darkness of November! We’ve found yummy brunch, concerts, film festivals, a LEGO World event, and a calming yoga retreat for you, among lots of other fun things.

Friday 1st – Thursday 7th November
Young and Beautiful at Österlånggatan 3
Alan Novak’s first solo exhibit is a focus on portrait photography in the fashion industry. He has worked closely with makeup artists and fashion designers to perfect his craft. Entrance to the exhibit is free.
Friday 1st – Sunday 3rd November
LEGO World at Kistamässan
Whether you are going with children or as a group of adult friends, LEGO World is bound to be fun, as you release your inner creative child! What will you build? Tickets are 219 SEK.
Saturday 2nd – Sunday 3rd November
All Hallows’ Eve in Kyrkogårdsön
This family-friendly event sounds so fun! There will be face painting (will you be scary or sweet?), a quiz, a lottery, pumpkin carving, and a buffet. If you want to carve a pumpkin, but will not be able to get one in time, you can contact the event hosts and they will arrange to have one for you. The buffet costs 180 SEK for “Big Monsters” and 80 SEK for “Small Monsters.”
Stockholm Dance Film Festival at Dansens Hus
In the fifth installment of this festival, we look at how dance is present in our lives and what meaning it has, via a series of films. In addition to film viewings, this festival will have workshops related to film and dance, and conversations with both local and international artists. Festival passes are 265 SEK, or 80 SEK for individual events.
Saturday 2nd November
Shockholm Halloween Parade in Kungsträdgården
The parade will begin in Kungsträdgården, after opening ceremonies, performances, and competitions. You will get to walk through Gamla Stan, enjoying live performances along the route, and finish in Kungsträdgården again, where there will be awards and food! What costume will you wear?
Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone in Concert at Stockholm Waterfront
Did you ever wonder if the Harry Potter series could get even better? Well, it can! The Stockholm Concert Orchestra will perform the soundtrack live while the first movie plays. Tickets range from 348 to 650 SEK.
Sunday 3rd November
Southern Brunch at Low & Slow Smokehouse
Enjoy a southern-inspired BBQ brunch, either with a reservation or by walk-in. This weekend, they’ll have pulled pork hash, Nashville hot chicken sandwich, BBQ brisket scramble, and bananas foster french toast. Our mouths are watering!
Light Festival at Brunnsviken
This family-friendly event includes flame shows, a lantern train for children, and dance performances. The festival is large, with events happening all over the Royal National City Park. Most restaurants and cafes around will be open, along with the Carl Eldh’s Ateljemuseum and the Haga Park Museum.
Tuesday 5th November
Heather Nova at Nalen
Heather Nova began writing her own songs by age 8, and learning guitar by age 14. Her music is influenced by Patti Smith and Kate Bush. She has recently released her newest album, “Pearl,” and is taking it on tour! Jack Rubinacci will be support at this concert. Tickets are 275 SEK.
Wednesday 6th – Sunday 17th November
Stockholm International Film Festival
This year celebrates the 30th installment of the Stockholm International Film Festival. This festival provides a special opportunity for young and unestablished filmmakers, with about a third of the films chosen having debut or new (fewer than 3 films) directors. Bringing a broad selection of films from over 60 countries, as well as seminars and talks, the Stockholm International Film Festival has something to offer for everyone. Ordinary tickets to a film screening are 100 SEK with membership, or 190 SEK without a membership.
Thursday 7th November
Elder Island at Obaren
See the experimental British trio Elder Island play at Obaren. With influences like Frank Zappa, and a blend of indie, pop, and dance, this is bound to be a fun show! They’re currently on tour promoting their latest album, The Omnitone Collection. Entry is free! Minimum age is 20.
Saturday 9th November
Stockholm Coffee Festival at A-House
It is commonly known that Swedes consume a large amount of coffee every year (we know it’s true!). This event gives you a chance to meet with fellow coffee lovers, to try some new coffee tech, and meet Swedish Roasters. Entrance to the event is free.
Monday 11th November
Girl in Red at Bar Brooklyn
Girl in Red is a project started by 20-year-old Marie Ulven from Norway. It began with her teaching herself piano and guitar so that she could write her own music. Marie’s music deals in an authentic way with mental health and sexuality.
Wednesday 13th November
Seminar Series at Lindstedtsvägen 3
For this month’s KTH Space Center seminar series, Professor Christer Fuglesang will give a lecture about whether satellites could help to solve the climate problem. The idea would be to shield earth from some of the incoming rays. After the lecture, there will be time for discussion. Coffee and cake will be available for the first 30 attendees.
Friday 15th November
Weyes Blood at Slaktkyrkan
Natalie Laura Mering is an American singer, songwriter, and musician, who has been a member of a couple of bands, before creating her own self-titled album, Weyes Blood. Her professional name is inspired by Flannery O’Connor’s novel Wise Blood. This will be her first time performing in Sweden; tickets are 275 SEK.

TEDxStockholm: Fast Forward at Hotel AtSix
This TEDxStockholm event will focus on what could bring us into a better tomorrow. We have come so far, especially with technology, but we still must confront issues like climate change, inequality and other societal issues. Tickets to this TED event are 653.50 SEK.

Bangers’N’Mash at Södra Teatern
This club is run by Robert Plaszczyk and Magnus Carlson, bringing you music that is indie, mod, manchester, 60’s and brit-pop. Entrance to this fun night is 150 SEK.
Lighting Ceremony in Kungsträdgården
Saturday evening, attend the warm welcoming of Christmas with the lighting ceremony. Beginning in Kungsträdgården, you can go on a guided walk through the city, seeing the many decorations in over 40 streets, squares and places in Stockholm. Decorations include Christmas lights, moose, deer, angels and more. These light walks will happen every weekend evening until the end of December.
Sunday 17th – Monday 18th November
Yoga and Meditation Retreat at Berns
Begin the week with relaxation on this 25-hour retreat. You will learn techniques to relax, to become more flexible in moments of negative stress and anxiety, all while recharging your battery before the week, and the winter. The price (3195 SEK) includes meals, accommodation, and all of the 8 yoga and meditation classes.
Sunday 17th November
The World of Hans Zimmer at Ericsson Globe
Enjoy a concert celebrating one of the world’s greatest film composers, Hans Zimmer. Gavin Greenaway will conduct the symphony orchestra. In addition to the music, there will be short videos interspersed in the concert, providing the audience with a glimpse of Zimmer’s work process. Tickets range from 800 SEK to 1050 SEK.
Thursday 21st November
Stockholm BlaBla Language Exchange
Whether you are hoping to improve your Swedish, or practice your skills in another language, this event is about language learning in a relaxed and friendly way. When you arrive at the event, you will be guided to a table with others working on the same language as yourself, and you will find topic suggestions to help you start practicing your language with your new friends.
Composer Festival Opening at Stockholm Concert Hall
British composer George Benjamin conducts the first concert of the international Composer Festival this year. Benjamin has been interested in music since he was a child, when at age 12 he dreamed of writing operas. Tickets for the performance range from 220 SEK to 430 SEK.

Deaf Film Festival at Zita
The films in this festival are produced by, with and about deaf people; the films reflect on being a minority living in a larger hearing community. Tickets to each showing will be 80 SEK. This year, the festival celebrates 20 years!

Christmas Dinner at Hasselbacken
Beginning at the end of November, you can enjoy a traditional Christmas dinner in buffet style at Hasselbacken. You can choose between lunch (545 SEK), a late lunch (795 SEK) or dinner (795 SEK). The price includes mulled wine and gingerbread. If you book your table early, you may receive a 15% discount.
Gingerbread House Competition at ArkDes
This year’s theme for the beloved Gingerbread House Competition is “hot.” There are three competitor groups: children up to the age of 12; architects, designers, and professional bakers; everyone else. If you are planning to participate, Friday 22nd – Sunday 24th November are the dates to submit your creation. The exhibit will open Friday 29th November. Admission to the exhibit is free.
Friday 22nd – Saturday 23rd, and Monday 25th November
The Lighthouse at Bio & Bistro Capitol Stockholm
This film, directed by Robert Eggers, follows two lighthouse keepers as they try to stay sane while living on a remote island in New England in the 1890’s. The film is in English with Swedish subtitles. Tickets range from 160 SEK to 230 SEK.
Friday 22nd November – Sunday 8th December
Christmas in the Conservatory at Bergius Botanic Garden
At this exhibit, you can see the plants associated with a traditional Swedish Christmas, including the spices used to make glögg. Although the texts in the exhibit are written in Swedish, everyone can appreciate the decorations and plants. Admission is 80 SEK.
Friday 22nd November
Kite at the Royal Opera
Kite is a Swedish duo, made up of Nicklas Stenemo and Christian Berg. They are the first pop band to create a show specifically for the Royal Opera. Kite will work with composers Jonas Valfridsson and Jukka Rintamäki to approach their songs in a new way for this show.
Saturday 23rd – Sunday 24th November
Christmas Time at Arena Satelliten
Chorus Stockholm Starlight brings to us their a cappella Christmas show, with a range of music from pop to soul. Tickets to the show are 300 SEK.
Sunday 24th November
The Simon and Garfunkel Story at Cirkus
This show follows the story of the famous musical duo, Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel, through their successful, but bumpy, relationship and career. The show includes their hit songs like “Mrs. Robinson” and “Bridge over Troubled Water.” Tickets range from 595 SEK to 1060 SEK.
Feminist Market at Nalen
This year’s feminist market at Nalen will have a special focus on literature in honor of Sara Danius. There will also be art and design created by feminists for sale, and a talk by the criminologist Nina Rung. Entrance to the market is free.
Monday 25th November
Emma Anderson Altafulla at Mäster Samuelsgatan 42
Altafulla is an up-and-coming artist, who grew up in Barcelona, moving to Stockholm to study at Konstfack. Her work has most recently been shown at The Högdalen. Rude Boy is a common character in her paintings, doing, as his name suggests, mischievous things. Her recent work includes maps of Stockholm with brutally honest labels.
Anna of the North at Bar Brooklyn
Anna Lotterud is a Norwegian singer-songwriter from Gjøvik. Her music has gained recognition via the Chainsmokers, who did a remix of her song, Sway, and from the movie, To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before, which included her song Lovers. Her music is methodical, R&B influenced electropop. Concert tickets are 100 SEK.
Wednesday 27th – Thursday 28th November
Lohengrin Dreams at Dansens Hus
Three dancers, two acrobats, and an opera singer work together to create this performance. The dance performance is about faith and doubt. Charlotte Engelkes is the mastermind and choreographer behind this show. Tickets range from 97 SEK to 345 SEK.
Thursday 28th November – Sunday 1st December
Christmas Market at The Royal Stables
At this Christmas market, which features the work of some of Sweden’s finest craftsmen, you will also have the opportunity to view the King’s horses. In addition, there will be a spot to buy traditional Swedish Christmas foods. Entrance to this market is 100 SEK.
Friday 29th November
Hera at Club Backdoor
Hera is the monthly lesbian club, where the DJs are always lesbian or queer. The staff working are always female or non-binary.
Saturday 30th November – Sunday 1st December
Schysst Jul at ABF-huset
This Christmas market provides you with the opportunity to support organizations that help with human rights and environmental issues. While you find Christmas presents for your loved ones, you can also learn how to become involved with various issues and how you can make a difference.
Ongoing in November
Mud Muses at Moderna Museet
This exhibit, curated by Lars Bang Larsen, questions how we imagine life and technology, when the two have become so entangled. The 50-year old installation by Robert Rauschenberg that lends its name to this exhibit was created in a time when it was only just being imagined how technology and daily life could be combined. Entrance to this exhibit is 150 SEK, or 120 SEK for students and seniors.
Breathing Colour at National Museum
Hella Jongerius created an exhibit about colour, shape, light and material. She has used both her own personal observations and scientific theories to create this exhibit. Jongerius believes that we should create spaces that breathe colour, and she does include black as a colour! This exhibit is free admission.
Costume Drama at Kulturhuset Stadsteatern
During the entire month of November, you can see how stage costumes are designed, and learn about the many different professional roles that contribute to the completion of stage costumes. Costumes from previous performances will also be on display. Entrance to this exhibit it 40 SEK normally, with free admission on Mondays and for those who are younger than 25 years.
The Danger is Over at Liljevalchs
Helene Billgren’s artwork has been transforming since she began her art career in the 1980’s. This exhibit includes drawings, objects and paintings from Billgren, as well as one section titled “My 100 Favorites” which is a collection chosen by Billgren herself. This exhibit is 80 SEK, free admission on Mondays.
Afternoon Tea at Konditori Lyran
On Saturdays and Sundays this month, you can enjoy afternoon tea with freshly baked scones, pastries, marmalades, and cream cheeses. The staff will tell you the magical story behind the house. The afternoon tea costs 290 SEK per person.
