Minimalist Sound: Bang & Olufsen and Norm Architects’s Contrast Collection

Danish audio brand Bang & Olufsen has been producing top-quality and aesthetically-focused speakers since 1925. Their recent collaboration with Norm Architects, called the Contrast Collection, explores the visual impact of minimalist lines paired with natural textures – a study of opposites in the already-popular sleek silhouettes of eight Beoplay speakers and headphones.

Bringing together on-trend colors with classic lines, the collaboration spans smaller and portable items like the Beoplay H9 headphones and the Beoplay A1, as well as home speakers including the Beosound Edge, Beosound Shape, and more. No new speakers have been created for the collection, which instead focuses on developing a unique presentation.

Norm Architects is a multidisciplinary architecture and design studio based in Copenhagen. They’re known for creating cohesive visual universes as well as technical innovation. The Contrast Collection exemplifies these characteristics with the brushed aluminium bodies of the speakers rendered in a subtle color palette.

While Bang & Olufsen typically works with aluminium, the finish of the Contrast Collection is new, and the tactility of the pieces are striking in a way that makes the designs feel reborn. It’s the same great sound we’ve come to expect from Bang & Olufsen with a new, considered look.
