Things can’t get much more romantic than December in Copenhagen. Major streets are dressed in festive decorations, windows glow in candlelight, and the cold air smells like Æbleskiver. While this December will be different in many ways from what we are used to, some things never change: there will still be plenty to do and it will all be magical. Get ready for Christmas traditions, dinners, exhibitions, and movie screenings, as always there is plenty going on in Copenhagen this month.

Here’s everything happening in Copenhagen this December:

Tuesday 1st December

Magisk juletræstænding på Blågårds Plads

Like every year, there will be a Christmas tree on Blågårds Plads. But unlike all the other years, it won’t be possible to join the community singing on the square. Instead, all children and young souls are invited to light the tree with pixie magic from home. Simply pick up a free Christmas bag at Blågårdens Bibliotek containing all you need to get Christmas started, then light up the tree and join the singalong on 1st December at 5 pm.

“Doin’ My Drugs” with Thomas Buttenschøn at Grand Teatret

On World AIDS Day, Grand Teatret is screening this life-affirming documentary following popular South Jutlander Thomas Buttenschøn to Zambia. With his guitar in hand and an important message to spread, he is visiting villages and radio stations. Having been born with HIV himself, Thomas is raising awareness for this fatal disease and the opportunities of medication that have allowed him to have healthy children with his wife – a surprising fact for many Zambian villagers. Thomas will stop by the show and maybe sing a song too. From 7-9 pm.
