Welcome to April, the month where it actually starts to feel like spring, as opposed to that liar March where it’s only officially spring. As the sun comes out, so do all the great events. Copenhagen is a city transformed by nice weather and there’s no shortage of fun things to do, regardless of where your interests lie. Enjoy!
Here’s what’s happening in April:
Friday 1st April
Rupauls Drag Race: Battle of the Seasons
See all the stars of Rupaul’s Drag Race on stage! This will be at Store Vega and we can’t think of a more fantastic way to start the month. Tickets are 350 DKK and the afterparty is at Draghouse.
The French Embassy Takes Over Jolene
Get your dance on with some great French DJs including Zaltan, Suleiman and Cam & Alex. Starts at 10 pm. Allez-vous!
Saturday 2nd April
Season Opening of Kødbyen Mad og Marked
Some of the best street food in Copenhagen is back! Go with an empty stomach and try it all, including a bunch of new stands.
Kaktus København Opening Party at Torvehallerne
Kaktus København is opening their second location at Torvehallerne! They’ll have nibbles and good prices all day, as well as free small cacti to the first 100 guests.
World Pillow Fight Day
This is exactly what it sounds like: an epic pillow fight for people of all ages! Bring your own pillow and make sure to check out the (fairly common sense) rules before you go. Location is TBD, so check the link in the title for more info.
Saturday 2nd – Sunday 10th April
Musikfilm Festival
30 films on all genres of music, from David Bowie to The Ramones to Nina Simone to heavy metal. Check out the full program and find what speaks to you!
Tuesday 5th – Saturday 9th April
Made in Japan
UK-based Japanese dancer and poet Tomomi Yamauchi performs a one-woman dance show, confronting stereotypes of Japanese in the West.
Thursday 7th April
TEDxCopenhagen: Reconsider This
Get ready for an all day TED event at Bremen Teater where all the speakers ask you to question your current reality on a number of grounds. Full schedule to be released soon!

Radiobiograf Festival
Everything you want to know about radio and podcast production, including talks (from IRA GLASS!), masterclasses, debates and more.
Friday 15th April
Food Truck Opening Event
Københavns Kommunes is hosting an opening event for all food trucks and food bicycles at Rådhuspladsen from 11-4. Go hungry and get some of our favorite foods in Copenhagen, including delicious ice cream from Istid.
Saturday 16th April
Sucre #4 Launch
Sucre Paper magazine launches their 4th edition at fab spot Depanneur. Go support local print!
Saturday 16th – Sunday 17th April
Lille Bogdag
A series of interviews, talks and readings from Danish authors and others in the publishing industry such as bookbinder Iben Andersen from IbenBooks. Lots of fun for all the readers out there. This event is in Danish.
Tuesday 19th April
Frank Turner and the Sleeping Souls at Lille Vega
Though UK-born Turner started fronting the hardcore punk bank Million Dead, Turner’s solo career has been more in the folk and acoustic genres. He’s backed by his band the Sleeping Souls and their latest release is Ducking Punches.
Saturday 23rd April
Kayhan Kalhor Solo Concert
World-renown virtuoso Persian kamancheh player Kalhor will give a solo performance at Global Copenhagen. If you’re not familiar with his music, or style of music, we encourage you to go and fall in love with the incredible depth of his sound.
Monday 25th April
Adam Lambert at Falconer Salen
Taking time off from his collaboration fronting Queen, American performer Lambert is on tour promoting his latest album, The Original High. He’s an energetic and talented performer with a great pop sensibility; it’s bound to be a fun night!
Friday 29th April – Sunday 1st May
48 Timer Festival
Two days of fun in Nørrebro, including events for children, concerts and more. Check out their Facebook page to download the full program.
Saturday 30th April
Pop-Up BBQ
Kost, Rødder and Sweet Sneak are teaming up for a delicious multi-course meal. There will be fish, lamb, and of course all the best homemade cakes around. Tickets are 350 DKK.
Saturday 30th April – Sunday 1st May
Sakura Festival
One of the most beautiful things you can do in Copenhagen: visit Langelinie to see the cherry blossom trees in full bloom. There’s a full festival surrounding the trees put on by the Japanese Embassy in Denmark including dance and martial arts showcases. It’s breathtaking and a real must-do!
Ongoing in April
“Intimacy in Art,” Statens Museum for Kunst
A look at the ways art depicts intimacy, including how artists came to find private lives interesting as well as how the meaning of intimacy has changed over time. Works are from 1730 – 1930. On until May.
“Learning from Japan,” Designmuseum Denmark
This exhibit explores the Japanese influence on Danish design. There will be over 400 works on display – both Japanese and Danish – some of which have rarely been seen by the public. On until September 2016.
“Fire Under Snow,” Louisiana Museum of Modern Art
Some of the most ambitious, exciting film and video work to come out of contemporary artists like Ed Atkins, Candice Brietz and many more. On until May.
