In the Nordics, the sauna is more than a tradition; it’s a way of life. Whether seen as a ritual, remedy, or pure relaxation, saunas offer deep detox, pain relief, immune boosts, and improved heart and respiratory health. They’re also a mental and emotional recharge, whether enjoyed solo, with friends, or within a community.
For the daring, outdoor saunas by the harbour offer a chilly plunge for the true Viking experience. Prefer a cozy retreat? From infrared saunas to community baths, there’s a warm oasis for everyone—your perfect mini winter escape.
Here are the best saunas to visit in Copenhagen:
Glaecier
Membership-based bathing club Glaecier is where wellness meets community, tucked on a houseboat in Refshaleøen with stunning views of Copenhagen. It’s not just a place to relax; it’s a space designed to connect, with a laid-back vibe perfect for meeting like-minded people.
Not a member? No worries—try every Tuesday’s Open Saunagus, where you can experience three rounds of sauna, with refreshing dips in the pool in between. With soothing warmth and essential oils, the Glaecier Gus offers a deeply relaxing and revitalizing steam experience that’s more than just a sauna; it’s your new sanctuary, and perhaps a place to meet new friends?

Winter Island
This sauna, in the charming Kalvebod Brygge, is special thanks to its structure: the sauna rooms are actually floating. This offers the comfort of the gentle waves, making it an even more connective experience. In addition, the panoramic views of the harbor are as delightful in the winter as they are in the summer. Winter Island offers a restful and unique sauna experience, right in the centre of the city.
Winter Island has four saunas that can hold up to 10 people each – book for a private group, or take some alone-time in a general sauna. Tickets can be purchased per-visit, or as a membership.
If you’re had a harbor dip and a sauna, then feel like something to eat, there’s an attached cafe that offers small bites and drinks.
