The days are (thankfully!) getting longer and while winter isn’t quite ready to release its grip on the Danish capital, the promise of spring is floating in the air. And Copenhageners are ready. As soon as the sun comes out, locals gather on terraces and sidewalks, anything will do to soak up some vitamin D. Make the most of the new-found energy and venture out to experience what the city has to offer this month.
From exhibitions to movie screenings to dining events, here are the best events in Copenhagen in March:
Friday 1st – Sunday 3rd March
Danish Coffee Festival
Caffeine aficionados, this one’s for you! For an entire weekend, Marketenderiet in Valby will transform into a haven for coffee lovers. Learn more about coffee and drink as many cups as you can when baristas, coffee shops, and traders offer their fares and knowledge. Friday and Saturday from 10 am to 9 pm and Sunday from 10 am to 6 pm. Please note that coffee is only being handed out until 6 pm on all days. Tickets are available from ca. 100 DKK for a one-day ticket via the website.

SILT at Cinemateket
In connection with the exhibition “November” at inter.pblc, the Danish Film Institute is screening the film SILT (35min). While the exhibition space is dedicated to an art installation featuring solar panels and speakers, referencing the nameless, rapidly appearing lake that presumably is the result of a bureaucratic glitch after the collapse of the Soviet regime, the film lets viewers encounter the lake from the perspective of a helicopter, a spectator, and a forensic diver. Women in art at Glyptoteket
In connection with International Women’s Day, Glytoteket invites you to explore iconic, historical, and mythological women. The guided tour will touch upon women under the male gaze as well as the experience of women artists in a world often made for and ruled by men. The tour is included in the regular admission price. Tuesday 5th March
Taylor Swift Quiz at Absalon
Swifities unite and test your knowledge at this very special quiz. Bring your team (you can be maximum six) and get ready for a good time. From 8-10 pm, doors open 7:30. Tickets cost 50 DKK.
Czech Embassy at Husets Biograf: Buko
With this event series in partnership with the Czech Embassy in Copenhagen, Husets Biograf lets the audience explore the world of Czech cinema. This time, the movie “Buko” is screened. Directed by Alice Nellis, the movie tells the story of Jarmila who, after the death of her husband, must take life into her own hands. As her late husband leaves her the old circus horse Buko, she’s challenged to step out of her comfort zone shaped by daily routines and TV shows and instead, with help of autistic Tereza, neighbor Karel and his mother, try to create a new home for Buko. The film is screened with English subtitles at 7 pm. Tickets cost 70 DKK.

Wellness Brunch with RAVE Yoga at Brigade Gallery
Start off your Sunday with some light and intuitive stretches, rejuvenating breathwork, and seated guided meditation, followed by a plant-based brunch in the inspiring surroundings of Brigade Gallery. The 60 minutes session will be guided by RAVE Yoga founder Helen and doesn’t require activewear – just show up in comfortable clothes. Saunagus & RAVE Yoga at 25h Hotel
Set the tone for the week ahead with a rejuvenating combination of yoga and saunagus. The evening begins with a RAVE mindfulness session consisting of a mix of intuitive stretches to get into the body, with a focus on breathwork exercises that activate your nervous system and seated meditation – re-setting your body to a relaxed state of rest. After that, you will be guided through a soothing saunagus experience by Gusmester Thorkild. Please bring active wear for yoga, swimwear for the saunagus, and perhaps a water bottle. CPH:DOX
It’s that time of the year, Copenhagen’s documentary film festival CPH:DOX is taking over cinemas across the city. The program is varied and includes an international competition as well as screenings of films exploring a broad range of topics, from war and conflict to identity to science to the world of music. Besides the screenings, CPH:CONFERENCE will take place as part of the festival, providing an interactive platform to exchange ideas and insights. Wednesday 13th March
Charlottenborg Live x Opening of Thao Nguyen Phan at Kunsthal Charlottenborg
With her work, Vietnamese artist Thao Nguyen Phan intertwines mythology and folklore from her homeland’s past with current pressing issues of excessive consumption and the destruction of the earth’s resources. The exhibition opens on the same day as one of the world’s largest documentary film festivals, CPH:DOX, which again has its festival center at Kunsthal Charlottenborg. Join for this’ years first edition of Charlottenborg Live including a talk with the artist and free admission to the exhibition from 5 pm.
Opening of Genskin (Reflection) at Thorvaldsens Museum
Dive into the depths of ancient history and learn about the cultural, artistic, and societal significance of Etruscan mirrors. The exhibition explores how these artefacts have mirrored the Etruscan way of life, beliefs, and their enduring influence on modern artistry, notably that of Bertel Thorvaldsen. Join for the opening at Thorvaldsens Museum. There’ll be talks, DJs, and wine from 4-7 pm. Entry is free.

MØ x Vega takeover: No Mythologies to Follow 10 year anniversary
There are few Danish albums that have made waves like MØ’s No Mythologies to Follow. To celebrate its ten year anniversary, the artist is playing three concerts at Vega, performing the entire album as well as selected other tracks from the same era. On top of that, she’s furnished several rooms at Vega, allowing the audience as well as people passing by to dive into her creative process. There’s one concert each night at 8 pm, tickets cost 390 DKK.

Dutch-Indonesian Rijsttafel by The Caribbean Housewife
The Dutch-Indonesian Rijsttafel (rice table) is a core element of various festivities from reunions to memorials and other gatherings. For these occasions, a wide selection of sides and mains is put on the table at the same time so that each person can compose their own menu. The recipes are often family recipes from the former Dutch East Indies, passed down from generation to generation. CPH:DOX x Absalon: Q&A, film & rave party
Together, documentary film festival CPH:DOX and Absalon invite you to an evening all about the free party movement of the 90s. The event kicks off with a screening of the movie “Free Party” which tells the story of a party so wild that the British state had to rewrite the law to ban it, preceded by a Q&A with the director Aaron Trinder. After that, Absalon’s large hall will be cleared to make room for a party. Hit the dance floor from 11 pm to midnight. Doors open from 8 pm and tickets cost 150 DKK.
Cassetta Launch
Cassetta collaborates with architects, designers, and artists in designing frames with corresponding limited editions. Join for the launch of the first two frames and limited-editions by Mentze Ottenstein whose work span from Frederik Bille-Brahe’s bakery Sofi in Berlin to an exhibition about Marie Krøyer at Skagens Museum and The Hirschsprung Collection. Come celebrate the launch of Cassetta and see what the talented duo Mentze Ottenstein has cooked up from 4 to 8 pm.

Science & Cocktails: How religion evolved and why it endures
Why do humans have religion? Does it have evolutionary benefits? Dive into these and other questions with world-renowned evolutionary psychologist Robun Dunbar from the University of Oxford. The event starts at 8 pm and will be held in English.
Friday 22nd – Saturday 23rd MarchCopenhagen Theatre Circle Auditions for One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest
Are you an amateur actor, or have you always wanted to be involved in the theatre? Copenhagen Theatre Circle, the English-language amateur theatre based in Copenhagen, will be performing One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest by Dale Wasserman, based on the novel by Ken Kesey, in October of this year! Auditions will be held over two days at Dansekapellet in Nordvest. On Friday evening, auditions from from 6 – 9 pm, then again from 11 am – 4 pm on Saturday. Intimate wellness with RAVE and Bare Sex Podcast at Arne Aksel
Well-being concept RAVE is teaming up with Amalie Søderberg from 24syv podcast “Bare Sex” for an evening around intimate well-being. Helen from RAVE will guide a 30 min breathwork session focused on connecting to the body and creating a safe atmosphere in the room. The focus of the event is a panel talk led by Amalie Søderberg as well as other invited experts, discussing topics surrounding sexual health, intimacy, and body positivity with the opportunity to ask questions. The event will take place at Arne Aksel‘s showroom and in collaboration with Copenhagen-based intimate wellness brand Peech, Rudolph Care, female hygiene brand All Matters, and sex wellness brand Sitre, who are providing goods for participants to bring home as an invitation to incorporate into a regular wellness routine. Danish on a Sunday: Innocence
With its event series “Danish on a Sunday,” Cinemateket aims to open up the world of Danish cinema to non-Danish speakers. All movies are screened i original language but with English subtitles. This time, the film is a coproduction of Denmark, Isreal, Iceland, and Finland. “Innocence” tells the story of Israeli children who resisted enlistment in the army but, eventually, capitulated. Their stories were never told as they died during their service. The film is screened at 2:15 pm.

Maria Yelletisch: Waves, Rocks and Seaweed in Menorca at Ruby Atelier
As we’re collectively yearning for time spent south, dive into the nocturnal charm of Menorca: Spanish artist Maria Yelletisch’s artworks reflect the allure of moonlit shores and beach stones. On display until 11th April.
Ssi Saarinen, Ona Julija Lukas Steponaityte, and Iida Jonsson: November at inter.pblc
At the heart of this exhibition is a nameless lake in Likanciai, Lithuania. The lake had appeared rapidly and is assumed to be the outcome of a bureaucratic glitch after the collapse of the Soviet regime. When land and responsibilities were redistributed, the maintenance of some soviet-installed agricultural drainage systems fell through the cracks. Soon vegetation sprawled in pipes and trenches, turning them into vessels. In reference to this story, the artists have installed 16 discarded solar panels that have been collected from fields and are covered in a thin layer of dried-out silt in two grids. In addition, composer Alexander Iezzi and masterer Enyang Urbik have in collaboration with the artists, created a five-speaker ensemble, presenting a composition for the nameless lake. In connection with the exhibition, the Danish Film Institute will be screening the film “SILT” on 3rd and 9th March at 8 pm. The film lets viewers encounter the lake from the perspective of a helicopter, a spectator, and a forensic diver. Please RSVP to [email protected]. The exhibition will be on display until 10th March.
Christine Clemmesen: Handed to Eyes at Møstings
Start the new year with an art opening. As 2024’s first exhibition at Møstings, visual artist Christine Clemmesen explores the intricate relationship between photography, space, and material while challenging the traditional understanding of what photography entails. The exhibition will be on display until 17th March 2024.
Generation WHY at Rundetaarn’s Bibliotekssalen
In this traveling exhibition, selected artists from Denmark, Norway, Sweden, and Iceland convey the emotions, experiences, and perspectives of their generation through powerful, moving works. Admission is included in the entry ticket for Rundetaarn. “Generation WHY” will be on display from 9th March until 28th April.

Leïla Guinnefollau: Wonder Awaits, au seuil du merveilleux Institut français
With “Wonder Awaits”, French, Copenhagen-based artist Leïla Guinnefollau invites viewers to explore enchanting landscapes frozen in eternal spring, where familiar objects take on a magical aura. Through various mediums such as watercolor, ceramics, and blown glass sculpture, the artist immerses the audience in a mysterious and dreamlike narrative, evoking influences such as Henri Matisse and Leïla Menchari. The exhibition will be presented in the new exhibition space dedicated to emerging contemporary art in Institut français’ new premises in Frederiksberg. It will be on display until May 2024.
Women’s Lives at The Workers’ Museum
Learn more about the known and unknown women of labor history. Discover stories of struggles, everyday life, equality, and equal pay. Explore the right to one’s own body and a place in history. This new exhibition at The Workers’ Museum gets up close to Danish women’s lives over the last 150 years.
The Fantastic Bus by Jakob Martin Strid at Copenhagen Contemporary
Coinciding with the launch of Jakob Martin Strid’s largest book work to date, this exhibition showcases the original illustrations behind it. Over 50 drawings, some measuring over 2 meters, allow you to step into his unique universe and to follow a road trip through incredible landscapes, into the stratosphere, and further to the mythical land of Balanka to save little Timo. It will be on display until April 2024.
After Nature at Glyptoteket
“Nature no longer exists. That wild, untamed nature, untouched by human beings, is a thing of the past.” So states the author Josefine Klougart in her essay “After Nature.”
Glyptotek’s new special exhibition “After Nature – A New Reading of the Glyptotek’s Paintings by Writer Josefine Klougart“ is a kind of 3D essay, combining the author’s texts with with masterpieces from the Glyptotek’s collection.
These masterpieces include French painters Edgar Degas, Paul Cézanne, Paul Gauguin, and Henri Rousseau as well as Danish painters such as Christen Købke, Christoffer Wilhelm Eckersberg, and Johan Thomas Lundbye. The exhibition runs until August 2024.
Little Table, Cover Thyself! at Design Museum Denmark
There’s something special about the art of table-setting and the way a decorated table sets the scene for special and everyday occasions. Experience how table-setting has changed over time and admire the collection of plates, figurines, jugs, and more. All the way through 2025, seven of the museum’s historical tables are decorated with items from the renaissance until today.
Guided tour: Highlights & Introduction at Louisiana Museum of Modern Art
Every Thursday from 2-2:45 pm, Louisiana Museum of Modern Art offers a guided tour of the museum’s collection and architecture. The tour is free for everyone but you need to pick up a ticket at the entrance up to two hours before the tour. This ticket is free for everyone with a valid ticket to the museum.
David Shrigley at Galleri Wallner
David Shrigley is one of the most popular contemporary artists. Galleri Wallner will be presenting a solo exhibition dedicated to the British artist. From 23rd February. More details coming soon, stay tuned via the website.
