At the heart of this exhibition is a nameless lake in Likanciai, Lithuania. The lake had appeared rapidly and is assumed to be the outcome of a bureaucratic glitch after the collapse of the Soviet regime. When land and responsibilities were redistributed, the maintenance of some soviet-installed agricultural drainage systems fell through the cracks. Soon vegetation sprawled in pipes and trenches, turning them into vessels. In reference to this story, the artists have installed 16 discarded solar panels that have been collected from fields and are covered in a thin layer of dried-out silt in two grids. In addition, composer Alexander Iezzi and masterer Enyang Urbik have in collaboration with the artists, created a five-speaker ensemble, presenting a composition for the nameless lake. In connection with the exhibition, the Danish Film Institute will be screening the film “SILT” on 3rd and 9th March at 8 pm. The film lets viewers encounter the lake from the perspective of a helicopter, a spectator, and a forensic diver. Please RSVP to [email protected].
